Zürich is located at the heart of Europe and at the foot of the Swiss Alps. Zürich unites creative city life and idyllic scenery within the smallest of areas. It offers over 50 museums and more than 100 galleries, while inquisitive city explorers can discover the striking contrast between the picturesque Old Town and modern urban quarters. All major sites are within walking distance from the ETH Zürich, which makes getting to know Zürich by foot extremely easy. Furthermore, there are plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs offering a vibrant nightlife. Nature lovers will delight in the city’s location, directly by the lake of Zürich, which offers a beautiful scenery and fresh-water swimming.

ETH Zürich and Zürich University, together with the research centres of major technological companies, provide a breeding ground for pioneering research and innovative start-ups

The “Polybähnli”, as the little red funicular is affectionately called, takes just 100 seconds to travel from Central up to the Polyterrasse. The old-timer train is particularly popular with students – after all, it is the shortest connection from Limmatquai to Zurich University and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology. However, tourists and locals also like to take a ride on the Polybahn as it is so convenient. At the top, the Polyterrasse offers a wonderful view over the Old Town and Lake Zurich.

The ride is free of charge with the Zürich Card.
